Loco for Locatelli... Joji, that is!

It's no secret that we are one big heart eye emoji for Joji Locatelli! Her designs are simply to dye for (pun intended), and she seems like the kind of gal that we'd want to be BKFFs with. That stands for Best Knitting Friends Forever... we totally just made that up, so we don't blame you if you didn't yet know what it meant, hehe!

Joji lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but love for her design work spreads far across the globe! With over 200 designs available in her Ravelry Store, there's something for everyone! Joji's style: draped fabrics, simple lines, and lots of little details here and there. Our style: anything Joji!

With over 25,000 projects, Joji's design that's led to the most projects on Ravelry is the 3 Color Cashmere Cowl. We'd pair this cozy cowl with Malabrigo Mechita!

2015, Year 14 - Dedicated to Sandy Hussey

If you've ever met Sandy, you know that she was an absolute firecracker - a total pistol - who would keep you on your toes and laughing, all at the same time! Self-proclaimed as the "sweet little grammy" of JBW, Sandy was caring, thoughtful, had a great sense of humor, was generous with her wisdom, and always had an ear to listen or shoulder to lean on. She holds the record for longest employed Bean - almost 10 years!

Sandy loved to pull orders - for her tenure at JBW she pulled customer orders, all with a pep in her step and her great Sandy-tude! If you placed an order with us in the early days, it is likely that Sandy was the Bean that carefully selected your items, and delivered them to our packing/shipping team. Without knowing it, you might have a little piece of Sandy with you, too!

Though she is now gone, each Bean still holds a special place for Sandy in our hearts. She touched us all, and left a lasting impression that words can't adequately describe. Sandy was unique that way - it didn't matter who you were, where you came from, or what your story was - Sandy was your friend, through thick and thin.

To our sweet little grammy: We miss you so, and think of you often! We wish you a Happy Mother's Day and hope that you are enjoying yourself, surrounded by men in kilts, wherever you may be!

What are 'onesies', you might ask? Onesies are one-of-a-kind skeins - no two skeins are exactly alike. A onesie is born when, for one reason or another, the skein did not meet the regular dye requirements for that particular colorway. 2011, Year 10 in Review!

When 2011 rolled around, JBW had the opportunity to expand into a much larger space (20,000 square feet, to be exact), and we jumped on it! This was our first year at our Capital Blvd. address, and we were able to "stretch our legs" a bit. More room in the warehouse, meant more room for yarn!

Around this same time, Jimmy was introduced to Amy, from Madelinetosh, by her friend, Ann Norling! Jimmy and Amy had dinner together one night, and she really enjoyed learning about Amy's family and background. Fun fact: Amy and her husband are a husband-wife team, just like Jimmy and Doug! Jimmy's favorite Tosh yarn is Tosh Merino Light in the color Composition Book Grey: "Isn't it everyone's favorite?!"

2006, Year 5 in Review!

In 2006, JBW moved into a pet store - no, really, we did! We quickly outgrew our first location in Reno, and moved into a nearby storefront that was previously a pet store. Jimmy and the Beans worked hard to clean the space of any lingering pet smells or hair, and moved a different type of "fur" into the shop - yarn! This move increased our square footage by 50%, which allowed for more inventory...

After meeting Barry Klein at an industry trade show, Trendsetter quickly became a favorite of Jimmy's and our inventory grew! Jimmy explains that she was in "awe" of Barry and looked up to him as an "icon" in the yarn industry: "He and his wife are such great people and are just so, so kind". Jimmy has two Trendsetter favorites - Transitions & Handspun Cashmere (a Lotus yarn, but distributed by Trendsetter)! She mentions that the Transitions yarn is a favorite, because of the packaging: "It comes in a box - I am a sucker for packaging!" Handspun Cashmere is her most coveted stash item, and she only uses it for special occasions.

 2004, Year 3 in Review!

Business was growing steadily in early 2004, and so was JBW’s inventory! Jimmy placed her first order with Tahki Stacy Charles, and quickly made a new friend out of Stacy Charles himself! Having admired Stacy from afar for several years, Jimmy looked up to him as an idol in the yarn industry: “He’s very fashionable, sharp, and has a great sense of humor – I was star-struck the first time I met him!” With over 30 years’ experience in the yarn industry, Stacy has been a great supporter of Jimmy & JBW over the years, and we are forever grateful for his support of our Stitch Red campaign, Eddie the Eagle campaign, and our Beans for Brains scholarship program.


The first TSC yarn that we carried was Cotton Classic, which we still carry to this day. This is one of Jimmy’s personal favorites, because it comes in such a wide variety of colors – a great stash staple! As a sport-weight yarn and 100% Mercerized Cotton, this yarn is great for summer knitting projects. Jimmy’s love for TSC yarn doesn’t end with Cotton Classic, she also has an affinity for Filatura di Crosa Zara yarn (a yarn that is distributed by TSC)! She loves Zara, because though it is also a stash staple, as a DK-weight, 100% Merino Wool yarn, the possibilities and variation for projects are endless! A favorite Zara project of ours is the Truss Pullover that Marilyn knit last summer – it would be the perfect tunic for a warm or cool day!
