One of our favorite phrases around here is “Maker’s Choice”, and boy, are we about to give you a bunch of 'em! Inspired by the talented Knit Purl Hunter and her Scoreboard Cowl (if cowls are more your cup of tea), we’ve put together some of the most popular football team colors to make the Football Scarf Starter Kit! This project is sort of like a choose-your-own-adventure, and it all depends on where you start!
Yarn we’re using:
Just as a quick reminder, this kit is designed to be a
starter kit for your team’s journey through the season, so we’ve included 2
balls of your team’s main colors. Given how well the teams perform, you may need
to snag another ball or two, which should be available on our website under
the Cascade 220 Superwash yarn!

Needles/Hooks we’re using:
- US Size 7 (Straights or 16” circulars)
- - -
Materials Needed:
- Stitch Markers (If you’re knitting in the round)
- Waste Yarn (If you are using the provisional cast on)
Instructions for all versions:
One color represents your team for the entire season,
while the other color represents the opposing team.
Short Version:
Every time your team scores, knit or crochet 2 rows in
your team’s designated color.
Every time the opposing team scores, knit or crochet 2
rows in the other color.
Long Version:
Every time your team scores, knit or crochet as many rows
as the number of points they scored.
Every time the opposing team scores, knit or crochet as
many rows as the number of points they scored.
Favorite/Best Season Version:
Listen, we get it. Sometimes our teams don’t perform as
well as we wished they did. Maybe they just dropped the ball on a few games and
got some pretty cruddy scores. If you have a favorite season in mind where
this wasn’t the case, you can skip the anticipation of the
next row and just make your project to record that season! Use these sites to
figure out the record from the season, kick your feet up, and knit or crochet
to your heart’s content!
