Live Long and Prosper: Remembering Spock

Those of you who follow our Lorna’s Limited Edition Colors know that we’re fans of sci-fi in general and especially of Star Trek - a feeling that many in the knitting world share. (What, knitting and nerdiness go hand in hand? I didn't know!)

Like all Star Trek fans, we were immediately and greatly saddened to learn of Leonard Nimoy’s recent death, and many of our customers wrote to us to ask that we revive one of our past colors in tribute to him. We thought, what better way to memorialize one of our favorite actors than with yarn? So we asked Lorna’s to create a special run of the color Live Long and Prosper, with an extra-long run of blue to represent the color of his Starfleet uniform. It's gorgeous - and we think Spock himself would approve.

Live Long and Prosper is available for pre-order in Shepherd Sock and Honor. Lorna's is dyeing the yarn now, and it will ship by the end of May, if not sooner.

On the Eleventh Day of Yarn-mas, Jimmy got for me, Eleven Pipers Piping from solstice yarn!!!!

This solstice yarn Luna Sock may be the Pied Piper of Pipers Piping, because I would follow this yarn anywhere!!!


Rachel and I had the opportunity to meet the owner (and family) of the Dublin Bay Knitting Co. and solstice yarn at Vogue Knitting Live Seattle 2014, and we fell in love with their super soft and luxurious fibers- as well as their welcoming and kind spirit!!!

 From Tricia of solstice yarn:

"solstice yarn was founded in 2007 by Dublin Bay Knitting Company Owner, Tricia Maynard. Longing for more subtle colorways in hand dyed yarns, Tricia set out to create her own, and solstice was born. Since its official debut December 21, 2009, solstice has grown to ten yarns with two more in development for 2014/15.

The colorway I created for Yarn-mas is a mix of deep blues and greys because "11 Pipers Piping" reminded me of the Scottish Highlands and the muted tones of the Scottish sky during winter that are reflected in the tartans of that region."
solstice yarn was born out of a want and need for subtly colored hand-dyes, and they achieve this time and time again in all of their luxurious bases!!!

On the Tenth Day of Yarn-mas, Jimmy got for me, Ten Lords-a-Leaping from Zen Yarn Garden!!!!

 A very zen company, Zen Yarn Garden is one that we've been known to covet- whether at yarn shows or online- their yarn's color and feel will put you in a very peaceful place!!! 




After some serious encouragement from Rachel and Kristen, from their encounters with these blissful fibers and wonderful creators- we are so beyond excited to be able to showcase Zen Yarn Garden and their Ten Lords-a-Leaping even if for only a brief moment!!!!

On the Ninth Day of Yarn-mas, Jimmy got for me, 80s Dance Mix from Holiday Yarns!!!

What ladies don't love a good 80s Dance Mix?!?! 

 Well, Holiday Yarns Dye Studio knows this fact about all ladies dancing (especially nine ladies dancing), and created a dance party in their Flock Sock 80s Dance Mix for us #justatjimmys!!!



Holiday Yarns are just as fun and festive as they sound, with their super saturated and sassy colors noone can resist feeling the spirit of the season- all year long!!!

 We were lucky enough to hear amazing things about their yarns this Summer and fell in love with them at first sight, so we began working on any scenario we could to get them at Jimmy Beans Wool!!!

The softness of this yarn and simply beautiful colors of Unwind Yarn Company's Journey Sock Yarn-mas color, Eight Maids-a-Milking are begging to be knit, crocheted, woven, or maybe to be that perfect mantle piece to oogle all season!!! 

Dana of Unwind Yarn Company is a busy gal!!! 

 Not only does she have a hand-dyed yarn company, she blogs, has a Ravelry group, and runs a fiber arts podcast with her best friend (in her spare time, wink wink)!!!
Our very own Rachel Roden of Unraveled Designs met Dana through her Ravelry Podcast group, and after seeing the amazing hand-dyed yarns, she just knew we had to have her yarn!!!

On the Seventh Day of Yarn-mas, Jimmy got for me, Seven Swans a Swimming from a Verb for Keeping Warm!!!

Seven Swans a Swimming- Actually Seven Swans a Floating!!!! 


Literally! When you touch this yarn you will float!!! 


It's subtle and soft colors envelope your senses, and then you reach out and the company A Verb for Keeping Warm does its magic and you're holding Alpaca, Cashmere, and Silk- and the rest is history!!!

Ohhhh!!!! The beautiful geese!!! Who knew Six Geese a Laying could be so luxurious and tantilizing!?!?! 

Apparently Phydeaux Designs, a company who adds sophistication and a little bit of old world charm to everything they touch!!!

 Phydeaux (Fido) created their Six Geese a Laying in their gorgeous base Soie (50% Superwash Merino Wool & 50% Silk- I feel dizzy with excitement), which is perfect for lacy shawls and heirloom knits!!!!

On the First Day of Yarn-mas, Jimmy Got for Me, Some Loft From BrooklynTweed!!!!

On the first day of Yarn-mas, Jimmy got for me, some Loft from Brooklyn Tweed!!!

 We are beyond thrilled to be able to offer a very limited appearance by Brooklyn Tweed for the first day of our 12 days of Yarn-mas extravaganza!!!!!

 We have been long time fans of Jared Flood and Brooklyn Tweed, with their mission to create quality knitwear, designs, and materials!!!

 Just plain gorgeous!!!

We are excited to present Loft- 100% American Wool grown in Wyoming and spun in New England. This fingering weight yarn is light and airy, and a super small amount of this beautiful yarn has come to visit!!! Make sure to grab your skein right away!!!

Fit for a Feast 2014!!!!!!! Gobble Gobble!!!

Fit for a Feast is back and better than ever!!!! 

 Thirteen amazing companies have come to join in the festivities #justatjimmys, and we couldn't be more excited (or hungry for yarn ;) wink, wink)!!!!! 

 Lorna's Laces is kicking off the smorgasbord with Wild Turkey in Shepherd Worsted!!!! 

 We've also got Jade Sapphire with scrumptious Cream of Mushroom Soup!!

 Koigu with Pickled Pumpkin in two variations!!! 


 Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in my favorite side dish: Sage Stuffing!!!   

Vice Yarns with Green Bean Casserole, and Mrs. Crosby with a tasty Relish Tray!!! 

Fyberspates and Malabrigo have tackled the potato dishes. With a delectable Sweet Potato Cowl Kit that is accompanied by Leanne's fantastic design, and includes both Fyberspates Vivacious DK and Malabrigo Rueca Handspun!!! Malabrigo Worsted Merino Yarn in Blue Mashed Potatoes brings a smile to our faces and is sure to please!!!



And what is a Thanksgiving feast without the desserts and mulled wine? Dream in Color brought a Fruit Anthology to the party, SweetGeorgia brought Pumpkin Spice Pie, and Freia Fine Handpaints brought Guinilla's Glogg!!! 



If your sweet tooth isn't sated just yet make sure to try some Artyarns Cranberry Orange Relish or Anzula Triple Berry Pie!!!


Of course there's always leftovers, and these leftovers come with a sweet little garland project from our very own Kristen Ashbaugh-Helmreich!!! 

If you're getting hungry, don't fret, there's a recipe booklet that accompanies each yummy yarn  dish!!!!
