Hi everyone! Here is this week's episode guide for Downton Abbey! Also below is some of the important info you might need for this week's knitting, in case you missed it yesterday.
A note to Beginners and/or those who are running short of yarn: The beginner border clues are set up so that you can bind off when you need to after finishing a row 2. Even though the border repeat is technically a 4-row repeat, you can easily decide at at any time that you are finished. If you are running short on yarn, you may opt to do this option to give yourself more control over the yarn usage. Also, this option is best for those who do not have 78 sts between markers, but do have an even number.
A note to Intermediates: You must have 78 (or in some cases 65) sts between markers. The stitch repeat is 13 sts so you will have either 6 (or 5) repeats of the pattern between markers. This is also a 6-row repeat, so tonight you will be doing 1 whole repeat of the border. In order to finish out the entire border as intended you'll need approximately 140 yds of yarn. If you are running short, see the note for the beginner option above.
If anyone has questions about what option they should do for the border, please shoot me a Ravelry message letting me know your status and I am happy to give advice.
So now onto the clues. Here is the order the should go in, with stitch counts to keep you on track:
Prompt #1 - When Thomas sets out on an adventure, do the following:
*Thomas goes to america with Lord Crawley.

*Knit these 2 rows just one time each. (78 sts between markers)
Intermediate:

Row 1: K4, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last 4 sts, K4.
Row 2: K4, p to last 4 sts, K4.
*Knit these 2 rows just one time each. (78 sts between markers)

I hope this clears any questions up for you all! Be sure to check in on Ravelry if you have any others. They may already have been answered on there, but I'll be sure to check in to make sure everyone is doing ok throughout the week as well! Hope you all have a great week!
Happy knitting,
Kristen
People are running out of yarn early even after assurances as far back as 26 days ago that it would be fine. Seems like too many are running out for it to be blamed on stitch or row gauge. Perhaps the designer should look at her row gauge again to see if she is the one who is off rather than so many of the participants who seem to be running out at the same time. I don't think this MKAL was done properly to begin with and the designer only blames the knitters instead of taking the responsibility for what are her bad design choices. Not fair to the knitters who invested so much time in this "mystery" project let alone the yarn.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually interesting to me that you feel that participants are being "blamed." Do you really think other people feel this way or is this your perception? Most participants genuinely want to know what caused them to run short of yarn. Being honest with them about potential causes is not placing any blame, it's an attempt to problem solve. When they come to me asking what might have caused them to run out of yarn early, I am giving them honest answers & possibilities. Many folks are then realizing that they had not paid any attention at all to row gauge not realizing how important it can be or that theirs might differ so much. I know that the gauge I quoted was correct, and at the beginning I mentioned that row gauge was important to achieve as the yarn yardage on the project is quite close. My test knitters were able to achieve this gauge as well. I am sorry you feel this is happening, but instead of accusing me of "blaming" participants, you might remember that several people knit this project in advance and were able to finish with the yardage requirement given. If this is true, then would you rather I be dishonest with people just to make them feel better? Now that doesn't exactly seem right either, does it?
ReplyDeleteHas anyone who bought Baited Breath had enough to finish the pattern as written except you and your test knitters? The ones who didn't do all of the increases might make it. My gauge was right and I didn't have enough. I have ripped mine and will use the yarn for something else. I keep checking the forum on Ravelry just waiting to see if anyone buying the yarn was able to finish. I also looked on the project pages. You have 97 people who have frogged. This is very telling! My point is JBW used this pattern to sell yarn and didn't care enough about the knitters to give them a positive experience. BTW, I am not the previous poster, just someone who agrees.
ReplyDeleteHi Darlene!
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your honesty and constructive feedback. I do understand that there are some unhappy people with the KAL who were not able to finish with the recommended amount of yarn. As for the rest, since the KAL isn't done yet, I am not sure how many will finish with the recommended amount just yet. My response to the anonymous poster was more about her accusations of me "blaming" participants which is really not the case at all. While I fully recognize that there are some frustrated people out there, I also recognize that there are a good number of people who are happy with the KAL and I am trying to keep the group moving forward in a positive way. I have also offered on multiple occasions to give a full refund of the yarn cost to those who are unhappy with the KAL. If you would like this, please contact JBW customer service and we will gladly credit you for the yarn and you can keep it for your future project. Nothing needed from you, other than a phone call. We are definitely not trying to leave the unhappy folks behind, as we do absolutely care about them. I've made this offer a number of times, and so far only one person has taken us up on it. If you'd like to, please give us a call and we'll gladly take care of it for you.
Best,
Kristen
Dear Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI guess no matter what you suggest to help solve the yardage problem there are those who still rather complain. I haven't finished all the clues not because of yardage problems, just because I've been rather slow in knitting. Whether or not I have enough of Bated Breath left I will finish even if I have to use another colorway to do so. Thanks for your assistance and I love the pattern. Take care of yourself and the little one in the oven.
Diane A.
Thanks for the offer. I love the yarn and will make something else. I would not feel right about getting money and keeping the yarn.
ReplyDeleteHi Darlene!
ReplyDeleteWell, the offer stands in case you change your mind. We just want to make sure that folks that are unhappy are taken care of so if there is anything we can do, please let me know. My e-mail is: kristen (at) jimmybeanswool (dot) com.
Best,
Kristen
I want to make mine longer. So Kristen do you have a suggestion? Should I repeat the whole pattern or perhaps some part of it?
ReplyDeleteI'd like to make mine longer as well and i am on the 2nd row of clue 4. Your suggestions, please.
ReplyDeleteMy Shawl Is Cupping At The End A Now. Is Anyone else Having That Issue? I Think It Is Because We.are Not Doing The Increases Before And After The Markets.

Cindy- that should go away when you block it.
Olivia needed a tablet for her artwork. She opted for a refurbished one and was thrilled by its vibrant display and smooth pen response, enhancing her creative process.
