The Endless Possibilities KAL is here!

Endless Possibilities!
Rue's Larch
I am so excited I can hardly stand it!  The Endless Possibilities Knit-a-long starts today!  Are you ready?
The staff here at Jimmy Beans really wanted to do this KAL as a fun way to commemorate the Endless Possibilities color that means so much to us.  It commemorates our first catalog effort on our own and the start of our 10th year in business!  
We had a staff contest and voted on our favorite nominated pattern.  The winner was the Larch Shawlette by Tinks and Frogs Rue.  Rue is the designer and she blogs about knitting, life, and her little one at her blog, Tinks and Frogs.  She was kind enough to share the design with us for the KAL-- thanks again Rue! :)  





You can download the Larch pattern for free on Ravelry.  If you are not on Ravelry and cannot access this pattern there, please let us know at info@jimmybeanswool.com and we can e-mail you a copy of the PDF as it is not currently available on the Tinks and Frogs Blog.  (We have the designers permission to do this.)   



Bethany's Larch
As you know already, Bethany could hardly wait to get started so she went ahead and did the whole stockinette section while on a recent road trip!  Go Bethany!


My Larch

I cast on last night in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock (the pattern only uses one skein!) and am already loving the way this color is knitting up!  It’s so bright and fun!  








I used a slightly different cast on than the pattern called for, mostly because I'm lazy and sometimes don’t feel like picking up stitches.  Here’s what I did:
- CO 5 sts
- Knit 2 rows
  • Row 1- k2, yo, place marker, k1, yo, k2 (7 sts total)
  • Row 2- knit 
  • Row 3- k2, yo, k to marker, sl marker, k1, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2 (9 sts total)
  • Row 4- knit
  • Row 5- k2, yo, k to marker, yo, sl marker, k1, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2 (13 sts total)
  • Row 6- knit
You are now ready to start with Row 1 of the pattern!  It’s not quite as pretty as the pattern cast on, but I’m perfectly happy with it and it seems to be easier for beginners (or lazy knitters like me)!

Quick knits and kits as gifts save the day!!!

The holiday's are barreling down on me like a freight train, BUT I am not panicking really!!! I have mentioned once, or twice of late that I always have the good intention in May and June to begin my holiday gifts, but alas that just isn't my style and I need to accept that, sigh!


Okay, okay enough dawdling get moving Jeanne!!! One of my regular customers popped by and showed me her 3 sets of the Scrunchie Hand Warmers from the One-Skein Wonder 101 Designer book and WOW I was super inspired! I grabbed the book, needles and already had the Lorna's Laces sock yarn in Goblin wound and ready to go in my knitting basket! Okay cast on and I have already knit one mitt (forgot it next to my chair sorry) and am at the thumb gusset. SUPER simple fun pattern and is really going quickly! I am giving them to %$@##^ hee hee!! She reads the blog. I think I am going to do a second pair for &%$# out of some great stash yarn I have...woo hoo!! Not only am I flying through some last minute gifts, but doing some stash busting too!!!

I love the way the 'scrunchie' comes out and think that once I am out of the woods with my holiday knitting I am going to work up some leg warmers using this great pattern; what do you think?

So with the knitting out of the way I also have a few knitter's that I shop for and was looking around the site for some ideas and I have one knitter that is as obsessed with socks as I am and so I thought the Fish Scales Socks kit out of Jitterbug yarn! I have to confess that this is a shameless plug since the pattern is mine, but what can you do with me??


The other kit I like is the Beaded Fingerless Mitts kit in the (new to our shop) Koigu yarn!! YUMMY!! What knitter wouldn't love getting this kit as a gift?

Okay so my kit will be here for me when?

How about the Debbie Bliss Aran Mulberry Silk Hat kit?? I am just drooling over this yarn and this hat is so cute!! What's not to love?



Okay I have to stop now, as I think I am hyperventilating...breath in and out, in and out!!!

Now can you tell whichever of these kits I choose to give as gifts I will have to get one for me too?? Well, duh, of course I will...gee whiz there is another way to do it? Ha ha!

We have winners!!!!

It was a close race and I can't tell how much your votes mean to us!! You are all amazing and it was a fun race. I can see that you are all fond of some of the older colors, as are we!

The 'new' permanent colors will be available by August 15th!! I can tell you I will be getting both colors into my stash in different weights...my poor family, ha ha!

MIA and projects

Hi all! I know I've been MIA on the blog lately. I managed to get myself really and truly over committed and somethings fell through the cracks. At least now I know my limit and can respect it in the future... I hope!

First off I would like to thank Laura for posting my first pattern in the free pattern section of the website. The Easy Slouch Hat. This is my latest done in Mochi Plus Autumn Rainbow held together with a strand of Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Fern. The color in this photo isn't great. I need to get a better one in natural light for the lovely green of the kidsilk haze to show well. I am totally overwhelmed by everyone's enthusiasm for it and I've seen some lovely versions of it already. From feed back we've received we need to tweak the pattern a bit for bulkier yarns which I'll try to get the info together for it soon. In the meantime I'm recommending not using a yarn heavier than aran/light bulky. It seems best to stick with 4.25 stitches per inch with the heavier yarns.

My New Year's resolution is to keep things manageable and finish projects.
Alas! I'm in trouble already with visions of way too many sweaters and socks dancing in my head not to mention budding ideas from a trip I made to Seville, Spain. I saw so many wonders and ate such wonderful food but what gave me lots of ideas were the lovely tessellated tiles in the Real Alcazar de Sevilla. Lots of possibilities for knitting patterns. So many ideas. Now I just need more time to make them happen.

In the meantime I have about 5 pairs of socks planned with two pairs started. The first one started is a pair of Cookie A's Pomatomus that I'm working on dpns using Lorna's Shepherd Sock in Jeans color. Jeanne so kindly posted about them in the projects section of the website.

The second pair is Amelie from Never Not Knitting. I'm working these 2 at a time using magic loop and Lorna's Shepherd Sock in Tuscany color (which I seem to be obsessed with lately so look for more of my projects using this color in the near future). This is my first time using magic loop and I have only 5 rows knit so far so I'm reserving comment on the technique until I'm further along. The thing I really love about this pattern is that the pattern is written with instructions for all 3 techniques of sock knitting... double pointed needles, 2 circulars and magic loop. So all the shaping for heel flap, heel turning, gusset and toes is all worked out for you for each technique. All in all an ideal pattern for learning a new sock knitting technique, not to mention they are pretty too.
As I'm sure you know there are a bunch of great Rowan yarns on sale right now and I'm having a hard time controlling my yarn hoarding impulses. Next time I'll let you know how successful I am.

Happy Birthday to Amber Rose - Almost!

I almost forgot! Here's a quick shot of the real Amber Rose - clutching bags of the color named after her... (she's holding the october limited edition color of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock Yarn - we got it oct 1st, but it's already sold out - crazy!).

Anyway, Amber's birthday is in a few weeks - and we think she's going to back home to New Zealand for the occasion.

Now that she's learned how to knit, we're hoping she'll pick up some yummy yarns - straight from the source!

Also - i wanted to say "thank you" to Marianne for the needle condolences ... i finally broke down and bought myself 3 replacement pair. But i still haven't been able to touch a pair of socks since then. Geez - think i have issues with letting things go? I guess so...

Anyway, Marianne also gave me an airline tip that i'd never heard before - instead of carrying scissors, use the cutter on your dental floss to break the yarn." Brilliant! Of course, that would mean that you are carrying floss in your bag - and i must admit that i'm the worst when it comes to flossing (doug flosses every night - what a good boy!)... i have a dentist appointment in 2 weeks, though, so i'm going to start tonight :)

Gone Fishin Socks Almost Done!

As usual, i'm on my way out the door - we're interviewing potential employees for the shop and i have 5 2nd interviews today - yay! I wanted to show you how my socks are turning out, though... the main color is the Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in September's Limited Edition color - Gone Fishin'.


I used brick for the toes and heels.... i have a size 7.5 foot and made the cuffs about 4 inches, because i only had 1 hank of the Gone Fishin... and i knit until i ran out - and then picked up the Brick for the toes.


It worked out perfectly! Since i have a bunch of the brick left over (i just bought 1 ball), i was going to pick up at the top of the cuff and knit for a couple of inches (you can kinda see that i started to do that on my tattooed - yuck! - leg). However, i had gotten about 10 rows done by the time we got the cancun airport - on our way home from vacation. And guess what? They took my addi circular needles! I had to pull them out of the daggone sock and give them up - AND i had 2 other pair in my bag... and they took those too! I couldn't believe it - $40 down the drain. And i bet they just throw them away. It literally made me sick (in fact, if you promise not to laugh, i'll admit that i actually did shed a few tears - i'm such a baby when i don't get my way!). Anyway, 1 week later, I'm still a bit scarred from the experience and haven't bought replacement sets... instead, i went back to working on my Panda Silk DK gloves. I still need to get a new camera (i guess my old one didn't like being dropped so often) and then will take a pic of the glove that i finished.

Oh yeah! We were in mexico during Hurricane Ike - here's what the sky looked like on one of the days that it passed by... it was amazing!
Ok - gotta run - i have an interview to conduct in about an hour - and i'm pretty sure the interviewee would appreciate it if i showered beforehand :)
