Welcome to Day 4 of Jimmy's Journey to 15!
Have you heard about Jimmy's Journey to 15?! It's our 15th anniversary this year, and we will be sharing the story of JBW, year-by-year, here on our blog! Join us on the journey as we celebrate 15 years in business and highlight 15 partners in the yarn industry! Each day we'll kick off the blog post with a short clip of Jimmy (a.k.a. Laura) recounting one year of our history, while telling the story of a vendor who came along for the ride!
In this video, Jimmy talks about some of the new features that Doug created to revamp the website. She also mentions how she was introduced to Manos del Uruguay and why she was enticed to start carrying their yarns.

2005: Year Four in a Nutshell
As the business was continuing down a path of steady growth, Jimmy and Doug had some big goals for the company and the website. Doug decided to give the website its first big "makeover," and he added a bunch of new features for customers to use, including the wishlist and the creation of customer accounts. Jimmy had visions of expanding her current inventory to add new companies and products, and she wanted to start carrying yarns that were a bit more exotic and outside of her normal realm. She stumbled upon the yarn company Manos del Uruguay and upon reading about their company's story and philosophy, she knew this would be a match made in heaven.
Manos del Uruguay is a nonprofit organization made up of cooperatives that employ women in Uruguay, with the goal of providing economic and social opportunities for women in their country. The women are the backbone of the organization, and they are also the artisans who spin and kettle-dye all the yarn. The organization has had tremendous expansion during their near 40-year existence, and is now a member of the World Fair Trade Organization. Jimmy fell in love with everything that this company stands for and couldn't wait to start carrying their yarns: "Manos was truly a pioneer organization with their socially-conscious roots, and I couldn't wait to jump on board and support the cause." The first Manos base that Jimmy decided to carry was the Wool Clasica yarn, and it is still one of our most popular Manos yarns to date.
Not only is Manos a dynamite company for the cause that they support, but their yarn quality and hand-dyed colorways are truly one-of-a-kind! Jimmy adores how unique their space-dyed effect plays with the different colors, and her favorite Manos color has always been Wildflowers.
