Have you heard about Jimmy's Journey to 15?! It's our 15th anniversary this year, and we will be sharing the story of JBW, year-by-year, here on our blog! Join us on the journey as we celebrate 15 years in business and highlight 15 partners in the yarn industry! Each day we'll kick off our blog post with a short clip of Jimmy (a.k.a Laura) recounting 1 year of our history, while telling the story of a vendor who came along for the ride!

Flashback to 2008 when Jimmy becomes a mom and bids farewell to daily showers, creates a trailblazing knit-along, and nearly drowns in Rowan Biggy Print!

2008 in Review: The Year of Biggy Print!

Jimmy recalls 2008 as the year she bought all of Rowan’s excess Biggy Print. She had SO much Biggy Print she had to relocate some of it to her house, where it was stacked to the ceiling in her spare bedroom! To help sell through it all she knit around 300 hats and perhaps set a record for fastest Biggy Print hat ever knit (under 52 minutes on size 15 needles!)

Jimmy fell in love with the aesthetic of Rowan yarns on the day she walked into Atelier, a San Francisco knitting shop, and discovered Rowan Magazine 29 on the shelf. The memory of flipping through those pages stuck with her and when the opportunity arrived to become a Rowan stockist she jumped at the chance! To be a part of the Rowan program she would have to carry 95% of their yarns. This, of course, was a no-brainer for her and so she tripled her stock of Rowan yarns to make it a reality.

Around 2007/2008, Jimmy developed a friendship with the president of Coats & Clark, the British distributor of Rowan yarns. She fondly recalls: "He became like a mentor to me, and we would eventually work together to create a Rowan catalog and the book Stitch Mountain."

Thank you for joining us on Day 7 of Jimmy's Journey to 15! Be sure to join us again tomorrow for Day 8, where we'll highlight our 8th year in business along with a vendor that joined us along the way! And be sure to check out our Ravelry discussion thread and chime in with any comments you may have as we reminisce together about the last 15 years! You can also spread the word on social media using the hashtag #jimmysjourney15.

XOXO,

  1. 15 years in the business is a big feat, congrats! I have been looking for sourcing reliable yarn providers, and it looks like I have found the supplier. As I am planning to revive my father’s textile business after completing college. But first, I have to find the best college essay writing service in UK for managing my essay writing task. Because I have to do some research before sourcing yarn.
