Jimmy's Journey, Day 1 of 15: Lorna's Laces and Mother's Day Gift Baskets

Welcome to Day 1 of Jimmy's Journey to 15!

Have you heard about Jimmy's Journey to 15?! It's our 15th anniversary this year, and we will be sharing the story of JBW, year-by-year, here on our blog! Join us on the journey as we celebrate 15 years in business and highlight 15 partners in the yarn industry! Each day we'll kick off our blog post with a short clip of Jimmy (a.k.a Laura) recounting 1 year of our history, while telling the story of a vendor who came along for the ride!

In this video Jimmy recounts the story of meeting Lorna Miser of Lorna's Laces, and how their meeting set Jimmy and Doug on a path to opening their own shop!

Jimmy’s persistence in persuading Lorna to let her build her website certainly paid off! By 2001, the Lorna's Laces website was up and running and Jimmy had not only made a fast friend, but also heaps of colorful fiber! Trading the website help for some of Lorna’s yarn, Jimmy now had a stash to be proud of, one that was filled with what are now some of her all-time favorite hues, like Rainbow and Tuscany (two colorways that are still going strong to this day)! Like a kid in a candy store, Jimmy gleefully remembers visiting Lorna’s basement for the first time: “There was just sooo much yarn!”

In 2007, JBW and new Lorna’s Laces owner, Beth Casey, rolled out an exciting new collaboration: Lorna’s Limited Edition (LLE)! At the beginning of each month we began introducing a limited number of hanks in a special color, dreamed up by us and dyed to perfection by the team at Lorna’s! And, true to form, today we are releasing the 117th Lorna’s Limited Edition color: May Flowers!

April Showers Bring May Flowers… and Mother’s Day Gift Baskets!

Mother's Day Gift Basket - Knitter's Dream
May Flowers honors our favorite flora by blending the gorgeous purple hues of iris, lilac, wisteria and sweet pea to create the perfect colorway for a lovely springtime project. Not only are we honoring these pretty springtime blooms, but also a very important figure in our lives: Mom!

Jimmy's April Showers and May Flowers

The month of May is all about Mom, and what better way to celebrate the awesome mamas in our lives than to spoil them with our brand new Mother's Day Gift Baskets! We've customized two different gift baskets this year so you can cover all the bases for the perfect gift!

The Garden Bed Shawl by Christopher Salas is available only
with the purchase of a Mother's Day Gift Basket.

Each basket includes two skeins of Lorna's Limited Edition Shepherd Sock – one in May Flowers and one in Jimmy’s own speckle-tastic variation of the colorway April Showers (dyed exclusively for these gift baskets), plus additional goodies for you to choose from!
We've even included the pattern for Garden Bed, a lavish shawl designed by the talented Christopher Salas, to perfectly tie the two colors together!

For more project inspiration utilizing these two colors together, be sure to check out our Knitspiration newsletter from March '17, which is all about combining solids with speckles!

  2. I love this story! Hooray for big visions and small spaces. As for sharing the lust around the world... We have serious wanderlust, and of course my knitting travels with me. Needles and color-wonder have been a bridge to many friendships. You yarn-mages understand that look of fascination on an eager learner's face! My longest-lasting knit-lation (elated knitting relationship) is with a young man in Zimbabwe. I taught him to knit in 2008, and he makes beanies and cell phone bags (s'kwama) and beer cozies to sell to tourists. I still send him yarn! Thanks, JBW, for being so cool.

  3. Happy 15th!! I am loving these blurps into the world of Jimmy Beans. I placed my first order with you guys in Dec 2015. If I am not mistaken it was the first time I ordered yarn online. I was a fairly new knitter then and have not looked back. I have always recommended you guys and will continue to do so. I have never had any issues with a order except when the Vikings MKAL came out and my 2nd color was not going to come in. You staff went above and beyond emailing me and helping for an alternate color. Which by the way the shawl turned out amazing. I also have worked with you guys in the past bringing the Dark Crystal Color to life. That was one of the most magical experiences ever!!!
